Welcome message from Professor Tim Harries

Many congratulations on joining Physics and Astronomy at the University of Exeter. We are delighted to welcome you to our vibrant academic community dedicated to delivering world-class teaching and research.
You have done brilliantly to get here, and you should be proud of your achievement. From now on you have the chance to study Physics at a deep level, guided by our world-renowned experts and using state-of-the-art equipment.
You will be assigned a personal tutor and you will meet them during the Induction Event. They are there to help you settle in to life in the Department and can answer any questions you might have about the course, and they can signpost you to any other help you might need.
Look out for events that happen during the year, such as Physics Breakfasts on Friday mornings on the 7th floor of the tower, and Physics@Exeter talks and social events that occur during the term. These tend to be advertised by email – so be sure to get into the habit of checking your University email daily. Events like these are a good opportunity to meet and chat with staff and students and get to know what’s going on in the Department.
I look forward to seeing you at the Induction day and I hope you have a great start to University life.
