Physics and Astronomy

Callum Jones is a postdoctoral researcher in the Structured Light Group led by Prof Dave Phillips. He works on quantum optics in scattering media; aiming to control the spatial modes of entangled photons using wavefront shaping algorithms which could be applied in future quantum communications, imaging and computing technologies.

Callum's research interests are in experimental quantum optics applied to areas such as quantum communications and optical biosensing. His previous work contributed to projects on satellite quantum key distribution (QKD) via cubesats and security of photonic chip QKD devices in Dr Siddarth Joshi's group at University of Bristol. This work was in collaboration with industry partners including Craft Prospect Ltd and BT Group. His PhD project was on building sources of single photons and entangled photons and how these could be applied to enhanced sensing with whispering gallery mode biosensors, supervised by Prof Frank Vollmer and Prof Jolly Xavier in the Living Systems Institute at University of Exeter.
