Profile
My research interests lie in the physical origins of visual effects developed by living organisms. These include structural colours as well as fluorescence emission confined in natural photonic structures. In the framework of my current research project, carried out within Prof. Pete Vukusic's Natural Photonics Group, I investigate the fluorescence emission in photonic structures found in insects as well as the fluorescence emission changes in these structures induced by contact with fluids.
From 2011 to 2015, I was a Research Fellow of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S.-FNRS). During that time, I carried out a PhD thesis at the Department of Physics of the University of Namur, Belgium. This projects aimed to understand fundamental mechanisms of structural colouration in living organisms such as additive photonic colours and liquid/vapour-induced colour changes.
Beside my interest in scientific research, I also enjoy contact with students through teaching or outreaching activities.
