Wednesday 15 Feb 2023: Towards earth-analogue planets
Chris Watson - Queens University Belfast
Physics building, 4th floor 14:00-15:00
New instrumentation and space missions promise to deliver the precision to enable the detection of small, rocky, Earth-like planets in Earth-like orbits around solar-like stars in the coming decade. However, our ability to confirm such planets is not determined by instrumental advances, but rather by our understanding of the processes occurring on the surface of the host star of such planets. I will talk about the work done at QUB to understand such processes in the context of exoplanet discovery, and how our Sun may help to ultimately uncover such Earth-analogues.
