OverviewI am a PhD student within the Physics department here in Exeter. Specifically, I work in the Biomedical Spectroscopy group headed by Prof Nick Stone and Prof Francesca Palombo.
Current ResearchMy current work is focused on the development and optimisation of fibre optic Raman needle probes for the diagnosis of disease. Specifically my current work involves the optimisation of the design of a Raman needle probe for Lymphoma diagnosis. This work is related to an ongoing NIHR funded project.
Previous ResearchPrior to starting my PhD I completed my masters project (MSci Natural Sciences) within Prof Nick Stone's group here at Exeter. This research focused on utilising drop coating deposition Raman (DCDR) of blood serum samples to differentiate between control patients and patients with lung or ovarian cancer. This work resulted in a publication.
Prior to my masters project I undertook two summer projects within the group; one utlising transmission Raman spectroscopy (TRS) to predict the depth of an analyte within turbid media (resulting in publication) and another utilising fourier transform Infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy for the development of an oesophageal cancer diagnostic model.
