Professor Jude Meakin (She/they)

Professor Judith (Jude) Meakin is an Associate Professor of Spine Biomechanics within the Biomedical Physics Group at the University of Exeter. Before joining Exeter as a lecturer in 2010, she gained valuable experience in research positions at the University of Aberdeen, UK, and the University of Calgary, Canada.

Professor Meakin's research delves into the biomechanics of the spine, with a particular emphasis on understanding the natural variations among individuals. By integrating advanced imaging techniques and computational modelling, she seeks to uncover how these variations influence spinal biomechanics in health and disease, aiming to provide a more comprehensive understanding of spinal function.

Beyond her research, Professor Meakin is deeply involved in the academic and broader scientific community. At the University of Exeter, she contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs and actively promotes inclusivity as a member of the Physics Inclusion Group. Additionally, she holds several roles with external organizations and professional bodies, reflecting her commitment to advancing the field and fostering collaboration.
