Thursday 06 Oct 2022Number Theory and Algebra Seminar: On subconvexity, moments and a problem in functional analysis

Kevin Smith - University of Exeter

Harrison 203 14:30-16:30

Abstract: On the surface, it would appear that subconvexity bounds on the growth of L-functions are easier to obtain than optimal bounds for the corresponding moment. However, taking into account well-known bounds on zero density in the right-half of the critical strip, in this talk we discuss how the latter problem raises a question in functional analysis - the favourable resolution of which would render the two problems essentially equivalent, and consequently lead to new bounds for sixth moments in t-aspect.
