Thursday 08 Dec 2022Number Theory and Algebra Seminar: Upper bounds for Leopoldt's and Gross's defects associated with number fields

Abstract: The Leopoldt and the Gross-Kuz'min conjectures deal with Galois descent of certain class groups in the context of Zp-extensions of number fields. They are related to the non-vanishing of certain regulators that appear in the formulation of p-adic analogues of Dirichlet's class number formula. In this talk, we recall the statement of these conjectures and explore their connection with classical results of Waldschmidt and Roy in p-adic transcendence theory.
